Everything you need to know to begin your journey in Witchspire — from character creation to mastering core mechanics.
Table of Contents
1Character Creation & Coven Choice
When starting the game, you choose a Coven. This determines your starting element affinity, initial weapon, and starter familiar. Witchspire currently offers 6 covens:
Lux element · Spellblade · Starter: Locto
Crystal element · Spellblade · Starter: Bril
Ethereal element · Spellblade · Starter: Quol
Nature element · Wand · Ranged playstyle
Nox element · Wand · Starter: Fien
Astral element · Wand · Cosmic magic
Beginner Recommendation
The community consensus is that the Foretellers with starter familiar Quol is the safest first pick. Quol has Phantom Echoes and Chrysalis Thread abilities, making solo play much more forgiving.
2First Steps — Tutorial Walkthrough
Choose your Coven & Familiar
This is a permanent choice. Your starter familiar is one of four: Quol, Fien, Locto, or Bril.
Explore the spawn area
Gather basic resources: Wood, Stone, Plant Fiber. These are the key materials for your first Hearth upgrades.
Set up your Hearth
The Hearth is your core base. It is the central hub for crafting, upgrading, and storing items.
Fight & bond wild familiars
After defeating a wild familiar, there is a 5% base chance for its spirit to linger. If the spirit appears, bonding succeeds at 100%.
Unlock Luminaries
Luminaries are your skill/talent tree. As your Hearth level increases, more Luminary options become available.
3Core Mechanics
Crafting
Crafting in Witchspire revolves around workstations. Different workstations produce different item types. S-tier bench familiars (Shardling, Lamloof, Granloof, Treetop) unlock unique crafting stations that cannot be unlocked any other way.
Familiar Bonding
Familiars come in three variants: Normal, Shifty, and Celestial. Each bondable wild familiar has a 5% base linger chance when defeated. Incense can be used to boost bonding chances.
Combat
Combat style depends on your coven: Spellblades favor melee while Wands excel at range. Your familiar assists automatically in combat. Pay attention to the Overhealth mechanic — your health bar may have an additional shield layer above it.
4Hearth Basics
The Hearth is your home base and progression core in Witchspire. It can be upgraded up to level 20. Each upgrade unlocks new crafting stations, recipes, and capabilities.
Tip
Patch 0.1.3 added a dedicated Build Removal Mode and Free Build Mode. Press X to place items anywhere without grid snapping.

6Common Mistakes to Avoid
Entering Shuddersands too early
Heat in the desert deals 10% of your Maximum Health per second. Make sure you have Lotus Brew (95% heat resistance) before venturing in.
Ignoring S-tier bench familiars
Shardling, Lamloof, Granloof, and Treetop unlock unique crafting stations. Prioritize bonding them.
Not using Homebound Scrolls wisely
Since Patch 0.1.2, Homebound Scrolls must be held for a few seconds to activate. Do not panic-use them in combat.
Not backing up save files
Patch 0.1.2 added auto-backups every 15 minutes, but manual backups are still recommended. Save corruption can occur in EA.
